Ms Allen teaches Science and EALD. She is a member of our Fresh Tastes Committee, our Special Needs committee, the Environment and Sustainability Committees, the Languages Other than English Committee and is the teacher representative at the P&C meetings. She established vegetable gardens and an orchard. Ms Allen runs a gardening club in her lunchtimes. Each year she organises a scarecrow competition for the community. She is currently exploring the possibility of renovating our kitchens to implement the Stephanie Alexander garden program over the next few years. Ms Allen is creating a native, edible indigenous garden outside our library. During NAIDOC week every student in the school will plant a native making it another community project. She is outstanding & passionate.
Mich supports so many students across the school. She goes above and beyond to make sure all of our EALD students are supported whether or not they are funded. If she can't get to the classroom she supports the teacher with differentiated activities and assessment that suits the needs of each student. Her commitment to the Torrens community is amazing. She is always the first to volunteer for community events, fairs, trivia nights, shopping nights, harmony day, end of year concerts, anything that involves the community involves Mich.
Mich Allen goes above and beyond not only in her lessons and interactions with students but with her dedication to students in general. Mich will put her hand up to do many extras at the school that contribute to all students learning. Mich even does extra playground duties to help out when staff are away. Her love and commitment to the teaching profession is a definite asset.
As a parent of 2 children who have enjoyed Mich’s science classes, I am inspired by her ability to captivate her students. I ‘lend a hand’ regularly with the “messy” lessons and am constantly impressed by her approach to teaching; from her student interactions, her lesson plans, and her obvious joy in sharing knowledge to her open encouragement of parent involvement - and I’ve learnt a lot too! She hunts high and low for entertaining, relevant and engaging hands on activities that reinforce the topics discussed. The kids are always excited to find out what they are doing on a ‘science’ day.
As an active P&C member, I've also noticed that Mich is always lending a hand in some way. It is rare to have an event that Mich is not involved in! Her energy and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated.
Mich gives more than would ever be expected, the kids love to go to her class because they learn in a fun way.
She's never short of a smile - for anyone! And she goes above and beyond for her school, she volunteers her time wherever she's needed, for extra activities and after school hours. She's always around if you need anything and she makes you feel cared for :)
Much devotes time, effort and energy into the children that cross her path. It's obvious that her heart is in it when it comes to teaching and the children - she behaves like she's attending a party instead of going to work :)
We love her spark and beautiful nature, and hope she never changes. Nominating her for this award is only a small way to say thank you :)
I have had the pleasure of working with Mich as a volunteer parent in Science. She brings such joy and wonder to the kids in every lesson, sparking wonder in their minds and opening them up to the big question of 'why' in the world. A teacher who gets the kids to think and question- not just accept that things are is special- and Mich Allen is just that!
Mich is a dedicated teacher who makes classes fun and engaging. She has a wealth of knowledge in a variety of subjects and always has time for students and parents alike.
I always know when my daughter has had science, she talks about the fun stuff learnt in Ms Allen's class every time! She is a great teacher, we are lucky to have her.
